PRIMATE INFORMATION CENTER The Primate Information Center (PIC) was founded in the 1960s under Maryeva Terry, assistant to Dr. Theodore C. Ruch, the founder and first director of the WaNPRC. The PIC resided on the 3rd floor of the Primate Center until the mid 1990s, when it moved off-campus to the Westlake facility. For one grant cycle, the PIC was jointly administered by the Health Sciences Library and the WaNPRC.

Now the PIC is back within the WaNPRC fold both spatially and administratively. The PIC has been greatly altered both in mission and funding. It is no longer producing paper based bibliographies - no more Current Primate References, topical bibliographies or custom retrospective bibliographies. The entire PIC PrimateLit bibliographic database - over 165,000 records dating back to 1940 - is now available online at http://primatelit.library.wisc.edu.

The PIC's new grant period, which began in August 2000, is unique in its history. It is contracted to the Wisconsin NPRC to provide citation and indexing information. This cooperative agreement between the Washington and Wisconsin NPRCs should benefit primate researchers worldwide by allowing everyone to do their bibliographic research on their home and/or office computers.
